Cerapotta: Redefining Coffee with Japanese Craftsmanship

In a world of disposable conveniences, the cerapotta ceramic coffee filter stands apart, offering a sustainable and artisanal approach to coffee brewing. Rooted in the 400-year tradition of Japanese ceramics, this innovative filter brings together the timeless beauty of craftsmanship with cutting-edge material science to elevate your daily coffee ritual.

The Origins of Cerapotta

Cerapotta was created by Hideyoshi Nagoya, CEO of h concept, and his son, Kai Nagoya.
Although mistaken for brothers at times, this father-son duo shares a passion for designing products that enrich lives.

Cerapotta emerged from their commitment to sustainability and quality, offering coffee lovers a paperless, eco-friendly alternative for brewing.

Unlike conventional ceramic products made from clay, cerapotta is crafted using finely selected minerals, with alumina as its primary component. Alumina, known for its exceptional hardness and safety, is also used in dental applications, ensuring it is taste-neutral and safe for human use. Each filter is meticulously handcrafted to maintain uniform thickness and consistent quality, making it not just functional but also a work of art.

The Magic of Micro-Pores

At first glance, the filter’s solid appearance might lead you to wonder how water passes through. The secret lies in its micro-pores, which are finer than a strand of hair—just 5 micrometers. These invisible pores refine water as it flows through, enhancing its texture and preparing it to extract the coffee’s full flavor.

With cerapotta, the true essence of your coffee beans comes to life. Unlike paper filters, which often absorb the beans’ natural oils and leave behind chemical or paper-like tastes, cerapotta ensures that every aromatic oil is preserved. The result is a cup that is clean, rich, and bursting with the authentic flavors of the beans.

A Coffee Ceremony, Redefined

In Japan, tea ceremonies celebrate mindfulness and craftsmanship. Similarly, the cerapotta coffee ceremony transforms brewing into a meditative and enjoyable experience. The gentle sounds of coffee dripping through the filter, the rhythmic pouring, and the delightful aroma create a moment of connection with the coffee and its origins.

Steps to Brew with Cerapotta:

  1. Grind 20g (0.7 oz) of coffee beans to a coarse texture, similar to that used for a French press.
  2. Rinse the filter with hot water to preheat it and remove any residual oils. Use this water to warm your brewing vessel.
  3. Place the grounds evenly in the filter.
  4. Begin with a center pour to bloom the coffee for 30 seconds, allowing the grounds to expand.
  5. Pour water in slow, circular motions, letting the coffee drip through naturally. The result is a perfectly balanced and aromatic cup.

Every pour becomes an exploration. Whether you’re using washed or natural beans, light or dark roasts, cerapotta inspires curiosity and creativity in discovering your perfect brew.

Sustainability Meets Longevity

Cerapotta is more than a coffee filter; it’s a commitment to sustainability. By eliminating the need for disposable paper filters, it reduces waste and minimizes environmental impact. With proper care, including simple rinsing or occasional boiling, this durable filter can last for generations. Imagine passing it down as a cherished tool, connecting future generations with the art of coffee brewing.

Experience the Difference

Baristas and coffee enthusiasts worldwide praise cerapotta for its ability to reveal the truest flavors of coffee. From world champions to casual drinkers, everyone can appreciate its simplicity and sophistication. The unique design even enhances the sensory experience, with the subtle sound of water dripping through the ceramic adding to the ritual.

The Journey of cerapotta

In the heart of design and innovation, cerapotta emerges as a testament to the timeless philosophy of creating a more vibrant society through design.

Established in 2002 by our visionary founder, we embarked on a journey under the banner of
h concept, aiming to enrich lives with products and designs that start with 'h' – happy, hello, hahaha...

These words resonate with joy and abundance, mirroring our mission to bring warmth and richness to everyday life through small-scale manufacturing, collaboration with companies and localities, and revitalizing towns with our storefronts.

Our exploration into sustainable coffee enjoyment without the use of paper filters began with our longstanding partnership as the import general agent for Swiss-born gold filters, spanning over two decades.

This journey led us to the discovery of the multifaceted world of ceramic filters – their origin, manufacturing processes, texture, and hues. It was this exploration that brought us to the doorstep of a 70-year-old veteran pottery in Hasami, Nagasaki, whose craftsmanship in ceramic filters moved us profoundly.

Through diligent development and countless prototypes, we sought a design that not only functioned exceptionally but also captured the essence of sustainability, quality, and a clear, smooth taste that truly stands out.

cerapotta was born from this relentless pursuit of excellence and sustainability.

Our brand represents the culmination of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and modern technology, marrying the unique properties of porous ceramics to create a water filtration experience unlike any other.

Our filters, made with minute pores thinner than a human hair, are designed to purify water while preserving its essential taste, allowing for a customizable brewing experience that caters to individual preferences.

Maintenance of our products is effortless, emphasizing sustainability and respect for the environment.

cerapotta can be used repeatedly, significantly reducing waste compared to traditional paper filters.

We pride ourselves on our sustainable production practices, including recycling excess materials, which underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship.

At cerapotta, we stand at the intersection of tradition and innovation. Our products are a homage to the 400-year legacy of Hasami porcelain ware, integrating age-old techniques with cutting-edge technology.

The process of forming, drying, and firing each piece remains a craft, cherished and preserved by skilled artisans.

The texture, the sound of filtration, and the enhancement of subtle aromas during the brewing process epitomize the essence of Japanese aesthetics, offering a coffee experience that is not just about taste but a celebration of culture, tradition, and sustainability.

Welcome to cerapotta, where every sip is a step towards a healthier planet and a richer, more joyful life.
